Beavers score twice in the third to sweep No. 9 Jamestown

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – In the follow-up match of the weekend, Minot State women's hockey got the best of the 9th-ranked Jamestown Jimmies and left Wilson arena feeling good heading into the next series.

It was a battle earlier today, as both teams were scoreless after two periods of play, meaning the first goal was going to be a huge one. Minot State was able to break through late on a power-play tally that popped off the post and into the back of the net. That goal gave the Beavers momentum, as they went back to work on the power play again and scored a massive insurance goal with just over two minutes left in regulation. That second power play marker was the dagger, as the Beavers found a way to take the win 2-0 over the Jimmies.

The Beavers (7-9-0 overall) scored the only two goals in the final period of regulation, both while up 5-on-4 after multiple hooking infractions by the Jimmies (9-4-0).

Minot State has a perfect weekend slate for the second time this season after defeating the Jamestown Jimmies 2-0 on Sunday. It is their first sweep of a team since October 20 and 21 against Lake Superior State. The Beavers and Jimmies will meet again three weeks from now at the Wilson arena on December 8 and 9.

Gillian Gervin was one of several Minot State players that continued their successful run against Jamestown. She recorded her fourth goal of the year from Cameron Schmidt at 12:08 in the third. Aspen Cooper also scored again as she continued to jump into the play from the back end. Her fourth of the season was assisted by Anna German and Cameron Schmidt once again at 18:38, also in the third period.

Morgan Baker was spectacular again for the Beavers. After getting the start in net once again, she stopped all 23 shots that came her way to complete the shutout effort.

Minot State battled and came up big in crunch time. They made it count on the power play when they needed to and swept the Jimmies to continue their winning streak of Jamestown, dating back to last season.

Minot State moves forward with a perfect 2-0-0 record against the Jimmies through two games this season.
