SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The battle of the young programs went to the host Cougars on Thursday night.
The second-year Minot State women's wrestling team got a pair of victories during the dual, but it wasn't enough to spoil the first-ever home wrestling event for the first-year Sioux Falls Cougars who beat the Beavers 39-13.
Freshman
Bella Hernandez scored a win by pin in 49 seconds in her 130-pound match, and redshirt freshman
Keela Kary added an 8-1 decision to the Beavers victory total at 136 pounds.
That was all the victories for Minot State (3-3 duals) on the mat during the dual, though both teams claimed points in a double forfeit.
Minot State did grab two more wins on the night, though, as
Skye Shelmerdine and
Trinity Boivin both wrestled in extra matches and picked up a win each by pin. Shelmerdine won by pin in 1:51 in a 116-pound match and Boivin won in 2:06 in her 123-pound match.
In the midst of a busy week on the road, the Minot State women's wrestling team wraps up three events in six days by competing at the Jimmie Lady Knight Open on Saturday hosted by the University of Jamestown.
