Minot State women’s wrestling hits road for trio of duals

MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State women's wrestling team will wrap up their pre-Christmas schedule with one more busy week of action on the mat, competing at Dakota Wesleyan on Thursday, then in a pair of duals hosted by Chadron State in Nebraska on Sunday.

Thursday the Beavers (3-3 duals) meet an equally young team in the Tigers who, like Minot State, are in their second season. The meeting is the first between the two teams.

Dakota Wesleyan (0-2) is led by Jayden Lange at 136 pounds and Olivia Smith at 170, both of whom have picked up a pair of wins in the Tigers to early-season duals against Hastings and Sioux Falls.

After battling the Tigers on Thursday, the Beavers head to Nebraska to visit Chadron State for a pair of duals Sunday.

First up is Adams State (Colo.) in a first-ever meeting between the two schools. The Grizzlies are another first-year program that has competed in two tournaments to date and have been led by Taniel Espinosa (116) who has placed in both tournaments and Bella Devoto (123), who also placed in both tournaments and finished a program-best second at the Bob Smith Open this past weekend.

Then comes the Eagles (1-3) who wrestled Minot State twice last season in a home-and-home series picking up a pair of dual wins over the Beavers. Chadron State is led by returning national qualifier Kamila Montenegro (191).

As for the Beavers, freshmen Ari Korish (123), Bella Hernandez (130), and Haleigh Lematta (143) all have excelled so far this season, which includes each bringing home the first individual tournament titles in program history last weekend at the Jimmie Lady Knight Open.
