LUBBOCK, Texas – The Minot State softball team came up short twice on Saturday, despite grabbing early leads, as Adams State rallied late for a 5-3 win and Texas Permian Basin erased a 2-0 deficit and topped the Beavers 8-5 in the Lubbock Sports College Tournament hosted by Lubbock Christian.

Texas Permian Basin 8, Minot State 5
LUBBOCK, Texas -- Freshman Calley Olson had a strong performance in the circle on Saturday, fanning nine Texas-Permian Basin hitters over six innings of work, but it was not enough as the Minot State Beavers fell to the Falcons 8-5.
In addition to her nine strikeouts, Olson (2-1) tossed six innings, giving up eight runs, five earned, on eight hits and walking four for Minot State (5-3 overall).
Offensively, the Beavers were led by junior Brooklyn Morrison, who went 3-for-4 on the day with a home run and two RBI. Junior Izzy Penner furnished a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers got the scoring started early, putting runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Minot State scored twice, with one run coming across on Penner's single.
The Falcons then rallied to score seven runs and take a 7-2 lead before the Beavers got back on the board in the fifth. Minot State scored twice on Morrison's two-run homer, which brought the score to 7-4 in favor of the Falcons.
Minot State kept the Falcons off the board before narrowing the gap to 7-5 in the sixth. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as Texas-Permian Basin added one run to their tally on the way to an 8-5 final.

Freshman Kierra Fournier (1-1) got the ball to start for Minot State and took the loss.
Senior Leo Watson led the way offensively for the Beavers, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run and two RBI. Sophomore Hannah Murray provided a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, with two walks and an RBI. Freshman Paige Kellogg also chipped in, going 1-for-3 for Minot State with a double.
