Abbey Kelley provides 2nd walk-off winner as Minot State tops Bemidji State

MINOT, N.D. -- Abbey Kelley provided the game-winner for the second time this season.

Kelley's RBI single to left field plated Sara Van Winkler with the game-winner in the bottom of the 8th inning as Minot State rallied for a 6-5 win over Bemidji State in the opening game of the MSU Bubble Invitational 2 on Friday night.

Sophomore pitcher Reegan Floyd dominated in the circle, fanning eight Bemidji State hitters over five innings of work to help propel the Minot State Beavers. In addition to her eight strikeouts, Floyd tossed five innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on five hits and walking two for Minot State (6-4 overall).

Freshman Calley Olson (3-1) also made an impact in the circle for the Beavers, throwing three innings, giving up one run on two hits, with four walks and three strikeouts to earn the win in relief.

Junior Gabi Dawyduk led the way offensively for the Beavers, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a double and an RBI. Kelley put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with a walk and the game-winner RBI. Sophomore Abby Lohse also helped out, going 2-for-4 for Minot State with an RBI.

Minot State is back in action Saturday hosting Montana State-Billings at 8 a.m., then Providence (Mont.) at 10:30 a.m. in the first of five games in the MSU Bubble Invitational 2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beavers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Minot State managed to push across two runs in the inning.

The Bemidji State Beavers failed to push any runs across before the Beavers built on their lead in the third inning. Dawyduk came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State, which brought the Beavers lead to 3-0.

Minot State's lead evaporated by the time the sixth inning came around and turned into a 4-3 Bemidji State advantage, when the host Beavers evened up the game at four.

Bemidji State then broke the tied and took a 5-4 lead in the top of the 8th before Minot State scored two runs in the bottom half of the eighth to grab the win, walking it off on an RBI single off the bat of Kelley.
