FREMONT, Neb. – For the second time this season, the Beavers and the Warriors settled for a tie.
The Minot State women's hockey team closed out the regular season with a 1-1 tie on the road against Midland in the final tune-up for both teams prior to the Women's Midwest College Hockey tournament, which begins Thursday and is hosted by Maryville University.
Second-ranked Minot State jumped in front early as
Ensley Fendelet scored on the power-play off assists from
Jordan Kulbida and
Anna German.
From there, it turned into a defensive struggle as Beavers goalie
Haylie Biever did her best to turn back the third-ranked Warriors.
Stopping 51 shots, Biever had a busy but outstanding day, but midway through the third period the host Warriors finally cracked the scoreboard with the game-tying goal. The 51-saves ranks No. 2 all-time in program history.
From there, neither team scored as the Beavers and Warriors settled for the draw.
Both teams wait to see who they will play in the first round of the WMCH Tournament on Thursday, with a high likelihood they will get to meet again Friday in the WMCH semifinals.
