Minot State women score first win at WMCH Tournament, advance to semifinals

CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – The Minot State women continued their season-long dominance of in-state rival Jamestown, and at the perfect time.

Krissy Rink and Sydney Spicer each scored in the third period to help the 3rd-ranked Minot State women's hockey team ice a 5-2 win over 12th-ranked Jamestown and advance to the semifinals of the WMCH Tournament hosted by Maryville.

A goal by Aspen Cooper put Minot State (21-9-2 overall) on top 1-0 after the first period, then Gillian Gervin and Riley Ball each scored in the second period to give the Beavers a 3-2 edge heading into the final stanza.

Rink scored early in the third, then Spicer's power-play goal helped ice the win late for Minot State, which also got 27 saves in goal from Jordan Ivanco in the victory.

Minot State now olays 2nd-seeded Midland in the semifinals on Friday at 7:45 p.m. The Warriors beat 7th-seeded Lindenwood 4-0 on Thursday.

Top-seeded Liberty, which got a first-round bye, plays 5th-seeded Maryville at 4:45 p.m. in Friday's first semifinal. The host school picked up a 4-3 overtime win over 4th-seeded McKendree on Thursday.
