Minot State drops final two in Branson, falls to Maryville and Southwest Baptist

BRANSON, Mo. -- The Minot State Beavers got a boost out of Paige Kellogg, who collected two extra base hits in a 11-3 loss to the Maryville Saints on Sunday in the Beavers first game of the day at the Drury Branson Bash.

Kierra Fournier (1-3) got the ball to start for Minot State (9-9 overall) and took the loss.

The game two of the day, the Beavers jumped in front in the top of the first inning against Southwest Baptist but fell 8-4.

Minot State is back in action in three weeks hosting the University of Regina on March 18 and 19 in doubleheaders in the Air-Supported Dome on the MSU campus with first-pitch scheduled for noon each day.

Kellogg's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-2 day, and included a double, a triple, a walk and an RBI. Taylor Smith put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-2 with an RBI. Taryn Bennett also contributed for the Beavers, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers were trailing 5-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Minot State put three runs on the board in the inning, highlighted by a run-scoring triple from Kellogg. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as Maryville added six runs to their tally on the way to an 11-3 final.

BRANSON, Mo -- Freshman Paige Kellogg went 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI for the Minot State Beavers in an 8-4 loss to the Southwest Baptist Bearcats on Sunday.

Sophomore Reegan Floyd (4-5) got the ball to start for Minot State and took the loss.

In the batter's box, the Beavers were led by Kellogg, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a triple and an RBI. Senior Jaycie Rostad put together a standout effort as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk. Junior Brooklyn Morrison also chipped in for Minot State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers got the scoring started early, putting runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Minot State put up two runs in the frame, highlighted by an RBI triple off the bat of Kellogg.

The Bearcats then rallied to score three runs and take a 3-2 lead before the Beavers got back on the board in the second. Minot State managed to push across two runs in the inning, which brought the Beavers lead to 4-3. The Beavers were unable to hold the lead, as Southwest Baptist scored five times over the remaining five innings to grab the 8-4 win.
