ATHENS, Ohio – Revenge will have to wait for Minot State.
The fourth-ranked Ohio Bobcats, who ended the Beavers season at the ACHA National Tournament last spring, held on at home to snap Minot State's 13-game win streak and give the No.1-ranked Beavers a 5-3 loss on Friday night.
The Beavers (25-2-0 overall) started strong as
Sheldin Howard scored 6 minutes, 7 seconds into the contest, but from there it was all Bobcats (24-5-0) for the next 30 minutes as they scored three straight to take control, on top 3-1 early in the second period.
Reid Arnold snapped Ohio's run and closed the game for the Beavers a bit, scoring with 5:34 left in the second period, but Ohio pushed its advantage to 4-2 midway through the third.
Minot State made a charge as
Jay Buchholz scored a power-play goal with 4:18 left to play, but the Beavers could not complete the comeback and an empty-net goal allowed the Bobcats to ice the 5-3 victory.
Jake Anthony finished with 28 saves in goal on the night for Minot State, which will look for revenge against Ohio again on Saturday as the Beavers play on the Bobcats home ice at 7 p.m. (ET).
