ATHENS, Ohio – The Minot State men's hockey team took over the final period and finally got some revenge with the Ohio Bobcats.

Scoring four goals in the final period, the Beavers (26-2-0 overall) erased a 5-4 deficit and scored an 8-5 victory over the fourth-ranked Bobcats, the team that eliminated Minot State from the ACHA National Tournament last March.

Drew Carter and Carter Barley led the way in Saturday's win as Carter scored twice and had an assist while Barley added four assists in the win, two in the third period.

Down 2-0 early, Minot State battled back as Eric Soar scored with 6 minutes, 11 seconds left in the first, then Sheldin Howard tied it 22 seconds into the second period.

Carter then scored his first of the game 55 seconds later, putting Minot State in front 3-2.

The Bobcats answered with a pair of goals of their own for a brief 4-3 lead before Carter's second of the game tied it.

Ohio (24-9-0) broke the tie midway through the second, then it was all Minot State.

Down 5-4 heading into the final period, Joey Moffatt tied it just 3:31 into the third, then Josh Pederson scored with 13:20 left.

Landyn Cochrane added an insurance goal, then Reece Henry iced the 8-5 victory with a goal with 2:59 to play.

Riley Wallace made 11 saves before turning the game over to Jake Anthony in the second. Anthony finished with 15 saves the rest of the way in the win.

Minot State now gets a weekend off before returning to the ice for another revenge game when the Beavers play at the University of Mary on Feb. 18. The Marauders handed Minot State its first loss this season back in December in Bismarck.
