Beavers get another walk-off win, complete weekend sweep at Bubble Invite

MINOT, N.D. – For the second straight game Minot State's "Battlin' Beaver" softball team scored a walk-off win, sparking a pair of victories Sunday to wrap up the MSU Bubble Invitational.

Minot State plated three runs in the bottom of the seventh for an 8-7 win over Dakota Wesleyan to start its day, then held on to top Valley City State 10-7 in game two to keep new head coach Bailey Gaspar unbeaten.

The Beavers (4-0 overall) next head to Texas for five games next weekend in a tournament hosted by Lubbock Christian.

Minot State 8, Dakota Wesleyan 7
MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot State Beavers rallied to score three in the seventh inning and walked it off on a single off the bat of sophomore Abbey Kelley to pick up the 8-7 win over the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers on Sunday.

Sophomore Reegan Floyd (2-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Minot State. The right-hander went four innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on five hits, allowing one walk and striking out four.

Offensively, the Beavers were led by Kelley, who went 2-for-5 on the day with a double and two RBI. Sophomore Abby Lohse put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Senior Leo Watson also helped out for Minot State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and three RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Minot State got on the board thanks to junior Brooklyn Morrison's RBI double with two outs.

The Tigers then scored two runs to retake their advantage heading into the fourth inning, when the Beavers responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves. Minot State scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a two-run single off the bat of Watson, which brought the score to 4-3 in favor of the Beavers.

Minot State's lead had disappeared once the fifth inning came around and turned into a 6-4 Dakota Wesleyan advantage, when the Beavers cut that deficit to 6-5. The Beavers recorded a run on Lohse's two-out RBI double.

Dakota Wesleyan extended their lead to 7-5 before Minot State rallied to score three times in the bottom half of the seventh to claim victory, walking it off on an RBI single off the bat of Kelley.

MINOT, N.D. -- Minot State got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Beavers put 10 runs on the board and defeat the Valley City State Vikings 10-7 on Sunday.

Freshman Calley Olson (1-0) got her first collegiate the win for Minot State (4-0 overall). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up seven runs, all of them earned, on nine hits, allowing four walks and striking out five.

Junior Taryn Bennett led the way offensively for the Beavers, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with two doubles, two walks and two RBI. Senior Courtney Chatburn furnished a standout performance as well, going 2-for-2 with an RBI. Sophomore Sophie Sparrow also helped out, going 1-for-3 for Minot State with a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers got the scoring started early, putting up eight runs in the bottom of the first inning, including a two-run double off the bat of Bennett.

The Vikings then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 8-3 until the Beavers expanded their advantage in the fourth. Junior Gabi Dawyduk came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State, which brought the score to 9-3 in favor of the Beavers.

Minot State kept Valley City State scoreless before building their lead to 10-3 the following inning. The Beavers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Chatburn. Valley City State put four runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Minot State still held on for the 10-7 win.
