Top-ranked Minot State beats in-state rival Jamestown, 2-1, in teams’ tune-up for nationals

JAMESTOWN, N. D. - The Minot State men's hockey team scored a pair of second-period goals then held on to beat host Jamestown, 2-1 on Wednesday in the first half of home-and-home games between the two North Dakota rivals.

The No. 1-ranked Beavers now will host the No. 7-ranked Jimmies on Thursday night at the Maysa Arena with puck drop at 7 p.m.

The regular-season finale for both teams, who will be in action at the ACHA National Tournament next week in Marlborough, Mass., the evening will also be "Senior Night" for Minot State which will honor nine seniors who will be playing their final game at home.

Wednesday, two of those seniors had a helping hand in the Beavers (30-3-0 overall) victory as senior Eric Soar assisted on both goals and senior Davis Sheldon assisted on the first goal.

Freshman Joey Moffatt broke the scoreless tie 9 minutes into the second period for Minot State, then 3 minutes later Jay Buchholz scored the winner off assists from Soar and Brayden Pawluk

Riley Wallace made the pair of goals stand up, turning aside all but one Jamestown shot for the win.
