Another confident comeback earns Minot State softball split on the road

MARSHALL, Minn. – For the second time in as many days the Minot State softball team used a last at-bat charge to garner a split in NSIC play, this time rallying for three runs in the top of the seventh to top host Southwest Minnesota State 3-1 in the finale of their Monday doubleheader.


The host Mustangs held on to win game one of the NSIC twinbill 2-1 over the Beavers (22-16 overall, 9-7 NSIC).


On Sunday, the Beavers split at Sioux Falls, plating nine runs in the top of the seventh in an 11-10 victory over the Cougars in game two of that doubleheader.


Minot State now closes out a six-game, four-day road trip playing a final NSIC doubleheader on Wednesday at Minnesota Crookston with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.


GAME 1 | Southwest Minnesota State 2, Minot State 1

MARSHALL, Minn. -- Sophomore Reegan Floyd allowed only two runs, but the Minot State Beavers could not muster the offense to take advantage, losing to the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs by the score of 2-1 on Monday.


Floyd (7-9) started and took the loss in the circle for Minot State. The right-hander went six innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on seven hits, allowing two walks and striking out five.


Senior Leo Watson led the way offensively for the Beavers, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a triple. Junior Izzy Penner put together a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with an RBI. Senior Courtney Chatburn also helped out, going 2-for-3 for Minot State.


HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beavers were trailing 1-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Minot State got an RBI single from Penner, scoring Watson from third base. Southwest Minnesota State then scored one time over the remaining four innings to break the tie and grab the 2-1 win.

MARSHALL, Minn. -- The Minot State Beavers rallied from down 1-0 in the sixth inning to win in exciting fashion, scoring three runs in the seventh to earn a 3-1 victory over the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs on Monday.


Freshman Calley Olson (10-1) started in the circle and picked up the win for Minot State. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing no walks and striking out two.


Sophomore Abby Lohse led the way offensively for the Beavers, going 1-for-2 in the ballgame with a double and an RBI. Senior Leo Watson furnished a standout performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Sophomore Chesie McLaughlin also chipped in, going 1-for-2 for Minot State with a double and a walk.


HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the seventh inning. Minot State put up a three spot, the big hit coming by way of a run-scoring double off the bat of Lohse. The score remained 3-1 for the rest of the game, as the Beavers held on for the win.
