Beavers can't finish off comeback, fall to visiting Minnesota Duluth

MINOT, N.D. – The Beavers got within 90 feet of tying the game before their comeback came up short Monday in NSIC baseball.

Down a run, a leadoff, pinch-hit triple by Cameron Carr in the bottom of the ninth gave Minot State hope, but the Beavers couldn't push home the tying run and fell 3-2 to visiting Minnesota Duluth at Corbett Field in the teams' series final.

Minot State looks to bounce back quickly as they head to Minnesota Crookston for a doubleheader on Wednesday.

Junior Cameron Bagshaw and junior Gage Yost each totaled five strikeouts with Bagshaw throwing two shutout innings without giving up a hit and walking one for Minot State. Yost's (3-2) five strikeouts came in addition to his six innings of three-run ball where he allowed four hits while walking six.

At the plate, the Beavers were paced by junior Mark Ossanna, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run, a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers were trailing 1-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Ossanna put Minot State on the board with a leadoff home run off senior Hayden Brown.

The Bulldogs broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the sixth inning, when the Beavers got back on the scoreboard. Junior Javier Gutierrez came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Bulldogs. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
