MANKATO, Minn. – For the second straight year, the Minot State men's wrestling team went on the road and beat the Minnesota State, Mankato Mavericks on their home mat.
Cannon Potts earned a win by pin in just 1 minute, 34 seconds in his 197-pound match while
Wayne Joint added an 8-0 major decision victory at 133 pounds to lead the Beavers who won six of the night's 10 matches to claim the team win, 22-14, in the NSIC battle.
Next up, Minot State (6-4 duals, 2-1 NSIC) heads to Wisconsin to face No. 4-ranked Parkside on Saturday.
Minot State took control early in the dual as
Logen Fischer gutted out a 10-9 decision over Lucas Ryan in their 125-pound bout to put the Beavers in front, 3-0.
Joint pushed that lead to 7-0 as he dominated in his match for the major decision win over Andrew Weiss.
After the Mavericks battled back with a pair of wins to take the lead in the dual, the Beavers answered as
Kelby Armstrong won a 9-5 decision over Caleb Meunier at 157 pounds, then
Brendan Barnes scored a 4-1 decision win over Kole Marko, putting Minot State back on top, 13-8.
The Mavericks then battled back in the see-saw dual with two more victories, their final two wins of the night for a brief 14-13 lead before Potts' pin put the Beavers on top for good.

Jake Swirple then wrapped up the team win with a 5-1 decision victory of his own over Tanner Gaffey for the 22-14 final.
