BISMARCK, N.D. – The Minot State men's wrestling team got a win from
Brendan Barnes, but that was all the Beavers could muster Sunday in a battle with in-state rival the University of Mary.
The 15
th-ranked Marauders won 9-of-10 matches in the NSIC dual, including a thrilling victory in the heavyweight bout that came down to a single riding-time point in overtime, as Mary won the head-to-head matchup 42-3.
Barnes picked up the Beavers lone three points with an 8-4 decision victory over Leon Mushinsky in their 165-pound match.
Minot State heavyweight
Jake Swirple came within a few seconds of adding another victory at 285 pounds, as he and Mary's Luke Tweeton were tied 1-1 at the end of regulation and battled into overtime.
After a scoreless sudden-death period, the match went to a pair of 30-second tiebreaker rounds where both wrestlers scored an escape point, leaving the outcome decided by riding time with Tweeton holding a slight advantage for the win.
