MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State wrestling teams will be part of an epic weekend of action as the Beavers host action at the MSU Dome and join Minot High School in a wrestling extravaganza at the Minot Municipal Auditorium.
All the exciting action begins Thursday, Jan. 25, inside the MSU Dome on the Minot State campus with a women's tri-dual featuring visiting Chadron State (Neb.) and Dakota Wesleyan taking on the Beavers.
The Eagles and Tigers get things started with a head-to-head dual at 3 p.m. at the MSU Dome before the Minot State women take the mat against Chadron State at 4 p.m., then the Beavers battle Dakota Wesleyan at 5 p.m.
The action rolls on at the MSU Dome with the men hitting the mat at 7 p.m. as the Beavers host Augustana in an NSIC dual.
The Vikings come in ranked No. 4 in the nation by TheOpenMat.com and with eight individuals ranked in the Top 20 nationally: Jaxson Rohman is No. 3 at 125 pounds; Jack Huffman is No. 20 at 133; Hunter Burnett is No. 12 at 141; Cael Larson is No. 16 at 149; Connor Simmonds is No. 16 at 157; Tyler Wagener is No. 14 at 165; Cade Mueller is No. 4 at 184; and Max Ramberg is No. 6 at 197.
The Vikings (9-4 duals, 3-1 NSIC) take on a Beavers team (6-6, 2-3) that boasts four nationally-ranked wrestlers in
Wayne Joint, who is No. 15 at 133 pounds,
Brendan Barnes, who is No. 11 at 165 pounds,
Cannon Potts, who is No. 19 at 197, and All-American
Jake Swirple, who is No. 8 at 285 pounds, meaning Thursday's action should be a thrilling battle on the mats.
After Thursday's events wrap up at the MSU Dome the action switches venues to the Minot Municipal Auditorium with competition on three mats simultaneously as the Beavers join forces with Minot High School for a day packed with action.
The Magicians will host their own tri-dual with Dickinson High School and Turtle Mountain Community Schools in town for boys and girls matches alongside the Minot State college teams.
Action gets underway at the Auditorium for this exciting event with Dickinson and Turtle Mountain facing off at 4 p.m. in boys, girls, and junior varsity action.
Action continues with the second round of competition starting at 5:15 p.m. as the Minot High and Dickinson teams battle in boys and girls action, with the Minot girls also taking on Turtle Mountain, and junior varsity matches taking place on a third mat.
The weekend of wrestling excitement culminates in three final duals starting at 7 p.m. as the Minot High boys battle Dickinson High on one mat, the Minot State women host first-year program Sioux Falls on a second mat, and the Minot State men take on first-year program Sioux Falls in NSIC action on the third mat.
