JAMESTOWN, N.D. - The Minot State Beaver's womens hockey team defeated #14 University of Jamestown on Friday, December 6, by a final score of 2-1. The Beavers are now 3-0-0 against the Jimmies on the season, and they take on Jamestown in game two of this two-game series tomorrow, December 7. With the win, Minot State improves their record to 12-5-2, while Jamestown falls to 4-10-2 on the year.
Jamestown drew first blood at 5:28 into the first period on a power play goal scored by Bethany Wielgosh to take a 0-1 lead.
The Beavers answered back quickly at 42 seconds into the second period on a goal scored by
Journey Miller to tie the game at 1-1. The Beavers took a 2-1 lead on a goal scored by
Olivia Opheim at 17:32 into the period. The Beaver's goalie,
Haylie Biever, held the Jimmies scoreless in the second period tallying 14 saves on 14 shots on goal.
Haylie Biever held the Jimmies scoreless in the third period with 9 saves on 9 shots on goal to secure the victory for Minot State by a final score of 2-1.
Makena Welby and
Liberty Miller were credited with assists in the game. The assist from
Liberty Miller was her first on the season.
Haylie Biever led the way in goal for the Beavers tallying 34 saves on 35 shots on goal to improve her record to 5-4-2.
The Beavers will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, December 7, in game two of this two-game series against #14 University of Jamestown at 3:30 pm in Jamestown, North Dakota.
