MINOT, N.D. - Seniors
Cayden White and
Shane Hansen led the way for the Beavers on "Senior Night" as each picked up wins by pin as the Minot State men's wrestling team rolled to a 37-15 non-conference victory at the MSU Dome over visiting Dickinson State.
Brendan Barnes also added a win by pin for the Beavers (8-7 duals, 3-4 NSIC) while
Wayne Joint and Jakes Swirple won by technical fall,
Ryan Hrcka added a win by decision, and
Isaac Ortega collected a forfeit victory.
The evening started off with the Beavers honoring seniors White, Hansen, and teammates
Brody Mohr,
Logen Fischer, and
Kelby Armstrong, Minot State's five seniors wrapping up their final year on the mats.
Fischer and Armstrong did not wrestle on Tuesday but Mohr did, along with Hansen and White, though he dropped a 17-10 decision to Isaac Andersen in their 174-pound match.
White and Hansen enjoyed better "Senior Night" results as White won by pin in 45 seconds over Jackson King in their 184-pound match, and Hansen pinned Samuel Adams 1:28 into the second period of their 197-pound match.
Those wins helped the Beavers seal the team win which was helped out early by an 18-3 technical fall win for Joint at 133 points, then a 3-0 decision for Hrcka at 149 pounds.
Ortega's win by forfeit put Minot State on top 14-12 in the team score, then Barnes won by pin in 2:02 of the first round in his 165-pound match against Joseph Oliver to put the Beavers comfortably on top, 20-12.
White and Hansen's pins pushed the Beaver lead to 32-15 before Swirple capped the evening with a 16-0 technical fall win in his heavyweight match over Chase Nutting.
The final home dual for the Beavers, Minot State now hits the roads the next two weekends starting with a trip to Northern State this Friday.
