Beaver softball scores pair of 1-run wins in doubleheader with Jamestown

MINOT, N.D. – Sara Van Wickler provided the dramatic walk-off winner in game one, then pitcher Kierra Fournier shut down a late Jamestown rally as Minot State swept a non-conference doubleheader from Jamestown, 4-3 in 8 innings and 5-4 on Tuesday at the MSU Bubble.
 
The two teams meet again in another twinbill hosted by Jamestown next Tuesday.

GAME 1 | Minot State 4, Jamestown 3
MINOT, ND -- Junior Reegan Floyd was dominant on Tuesday, punching out eight Jamestown hitters over seven innings of work to help power the Minot State Beavers past the Jimmies 4-3.
 
In addition to her eight strikeouts, Floyd went seven innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on seven hits and walking two for Minot State (5-1 overall). Senior Gabi Dawyduk (1-1) also made an impact in the circle for the Beavers, throwing one shutout inning while allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout.
 
At the plate, the Beavers were led by junior Abby Lohse, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Sophomore Sara Van Wickler compiled a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBI. Senior Taryn Bennett also helped out for Minot State, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a triple.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Minot State got an RBI single from Van Wickler, scoring junior Abbey Kelley from third base.
 
The Beavers then held the Jimmies scoreless before expanding their lead in the third inning. Minot State scored twice on Lohse's two-run homer, which brought the Beavers lead to 3-0.
 
Jamestown then rallied to tie the ballgame at 3-3 before Minot State walked it off in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single off the bat of Van Wickler.

MINOT, ND -- The Minot State Beavers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 5-4 win over the Jamestown Jimmies on Tuesday.
 
Sophomore Kierra Fournier (2-0) started in the circle and picked up the win for Minot State. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on nine hits, allowing one walk and striking out five.
 
In the batter's box, the Beavers were led by freshman Taylor Eatherton, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double and three RBI. Senior Gabi Dawyduk put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Sophomore Taylor Smith also helped out for Minot State, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double and a walk.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

Jamestown put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Minot State still held on for the 5-4 win.
