ABERDEEN, S.D. – Senior
Cayden White picked a win by pin in his 184-pound match, sparking a surge in the heavyweights for the Beavers who scored a 24-18 road dual win over NSIC rival and 13th-ranked Northern State on Friday.
White pinned the Wolves' Sam Kruger in 2 minutes, 33 seconds, giving the Beavers (9-7 duals, 4-4 NSIC) a crucial six team points as Minot State won the final three matches of the dual to erase a 19-11 deficit.
Cannon Potts added a 9-5 decision victory over Treyton Cacek at 197 pounds to giving Minot State a 20-19 lead, then
Jake Swirple won a 17-9 major decision at 285 pounds to wrap up the victory.
Northern State lost one team point for a misconduct, leading to the final 24-18 score.
While Minot State dominated the top-end weights, they got things started at 133 pounds with a 13-2 major decision win by
Wayne Joint for an early 4-3 lead.
After back-to-back wins for the Wolves,
Kelby Armstrong added an 11-1 major decision win for the Beavers in the 157-pound match, then
Brendan Barnes scored a 4-1 sudden-victory win at 165 pounds as he scored a takedown in overtime for the victory over Chase Bloomquist.
A pin for Northern State gave them a 19-11 advantage before the Beavers charge in the heavyweights for the victory.
The Beavers have one more regular-season match on the schedule left as they head to Minnesota State Moorhead next Saturday for a final dual before hosting the Super Region V tournament on Saturday, March 2, at the All-Seasons Arena at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds.
