MOORHEAD, Minn. – In a battle between NSIC teams that met earlier in the Minot State Bubble Invitational, the Beavers came away still searching for a first win against Minnesota State Moorhead as the Dragons scored a doubleheader sweep at home in conference action Thursday.
MSU Moorhead (26-16 overall, 13-7 NSIC) fended off Minot State (18-15, 13-7) in the opener for a 3-1 win, then rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 5-4 walk-off win in the nightcap.
Minot State is back in action this Saturday as the Beavers host Minnesota Crookston for a "Senior Day" doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. at SCHEELS Complex at South Hill. The Beavers conclude their home schedule Sunday hosting Bemidji State in a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
GAME 1 | Minnesota State-Moorhead 3, Minot State 1
MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Sophomore Paige Kellogg went 1-for-3 with a double but the Minot State Beavers still came up short on Thursday and lost to the Minnesota State Moorhead Dragons by a final of 3-1.
Junior Reegan Floyd (6-7) started and took the loss in the circle for Minot State. The right-hander went six innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on four hits, allowing no walks and striking out two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the fourth inning. Senior Brooklyn Morrison came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State on an Anna LaCount sacrifice fly and get them on the board. The Beavers were unable to hold the lead, as Minnesota State-Moorhead scored three times over the remaining three innings to grab the 3-1 win.

Offensively, the Beavers were paced by junior Abby Lohse, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double and an RBI. Sophomore Anna LaCount furnished a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Senior Brooklyn Morrison also chipped in for Minot State, putting together three hits in four trips to the plate.
