Minot State softball sweeps aside in-state rival Mary

MINOT, N.D. – Minot State's softball team continued its recent dominance over in-state rival the University of Mary, sweeping the Marauders in an NSIC doubleheader Tuesday night inside the MSU "Bubble" as the Beavers stretch their win streak to 15 in-a-row over Mary.
 
Reegan Floyd, Calley Olson, and Gabi Dawyduk led the way in the circle for the sweep as Minot State won 8-0 in 6 innings in the opener, then scored a 7-2 victory in the nightcap.
 
Minot State (13-9 overall, 8-2 NSIC) now hits the road for a key conference doubleheader, playing at preseason NSIC favorite Augustana (22-13, 7-1) in a battle for second place in the league. First pitch is slated for noon on Saturday in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
 
GAME 1 | Minot State 8, Mary 0, 6 innings
MINOT, N.D. -- Junior Reegan Floyd was dealing on Tuesday, tossing a one-hit shutout to lead the Minot State Beavers over the Mary Marauders 8-0 in 6 innings.
 
Floyd (4-3) went the distance for Minot State, giving up one hit, walking none and striking out four.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Minot State scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of senior Kilee Fehd.
 
The Beavers then tacked on runs in the third and sixth innings, with their biggest output coming in the third when they scored four times. Fehd and freshman Taylor Eatherton each had an RBI single, Hannah Murray added an RBI sacrifice fly, and senior Lauryn DeGuzman added an RBI fielder's choice in the rally.

MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot State Beavers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 7-2 win over the Mary Marauders on Tuesday.
 
Sophomore Calley Olson (2-1) started in the circle and picked up the win for Minot State. The right-hander went five innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on seven hits, allowing two walks and striking out two. Senior Gabi Dawyduk also made an impact in the circle for the Beavers, throwing two shutout innings while allowing no hits.
 
At the plate, the Beavers were paced by sophomore Sara Van Wickler, who went 2-for-2 on the day with a double, a triple, two walks and three RBI. Sophomore Paige Kellogg furnished a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a triple, a walk and two RBI. Senior Izzy Penner also chipped in for Minot State, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers got the scoring started early, putting two runs on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Minot State scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run triple from Kellogg.
 
The Marauders failed to push any runs across before the Beavers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Minot State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Penner, which brought the score to 4-0 in favor of the Beavers.
 
Mary narrowed Minot State's lead to 4-2 before the Beavers stretched the advantage to 7-2 in the fifth inning. Van Wickler's bases-clearing triple scored all three runs in the frame for the Beavers. The score remained 7-2 for the rest of the game, as Minot State coasted to the win.
