MINOT, ND -- Javier Gutierrez went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Minot State Beavers in a 9-2 loss to the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs on Sunday in NSIC action at Corbett Field.
Craig Schmich (2-7) got the ball to start for Minot State (13-26 overall, 10-19 NSIC) and took the loss. Tim Carlson was a bright spot for the Beavers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one shutout inning, allowing no hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the second inning. Minot State got an RBI single from Gutierrez, scoring Mark Ossanna from third base.
The Bulldogs then scored two runs to retake their advantage heading into the fifth inning, when the Beavers responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves. Gutierrez came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State, which tightened the Bulldogs lead to 3-2. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as Minnesota Duluth added six runs to their tally on the way to a 9-2 final.
