Minot State softball comes up short in doubleheader at Minnesota Duluth

DULUTH, Minn. – The clutch hits eluded Minot State on Thursday afternoon as the Beaver softball team dropped an NSIC doubleheader, 2-0 and 6-0 at Minnesota Duluth.
 
Abby Lohse and Paige Kellogg had a hit in each game to lead the way for Minot State (21-17 overall, 17-9 NSIC), but the Beavers could not push anything across against the stingy Bulldogs (37-14, 18-8).
 
Minot State is back in action Friday morning as they will close out the regular season playing on the road against St. Cloud State (27-23, 10-14) in an NSIC doubleheader now scheduled to start at 11 a.m. on the College of Saint Benedict campus.
 
GAME 1 | Minnesota Duluth 2, Minot State 0
DULUTH, Minn. -- Junior Allison Luoma and senior Lauren Dixon combined to throw a shutout on Thursday as the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs blanked the Minot State Beavers 2-0.
 
Junior Reegan Floyd (8-8) got the ball to start for Minot State and took the loss. The right-hander went six innings, giving up two runs, zero earned, on nine hits, allowing no walks and striking out six.
 
In the batter's box, the Beavers were led by senior Brooklyn Morrison, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a walk.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Minot State did not advance a runner past second base in the game. The Beavers went 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position, last placing a runner as far as second in the fourth, when sophomore Paige Kellogg made it into scoring position with two outs.

DULUTH, Minn. -- Senior Lauren Dixon and sophomore Allyssa Williams combined to toss a shutout on Thursday as the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs blanked the Minot State Beavers 6-0.
Senior Gabi Dawyduk (9-7) got the ball to start for Minot State and took the loss.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Minot State managed one chance with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position. The Beavers got a runner on third in the second when Dawyduk made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.
