NWCA Scholar All-Americans
MINOT, N.D. – The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) handed out its top academic honors last week, and the Minot State men's team racked up the awards.
The Beaver men's wrestling team was named the No. 7 team in the nation in the NWCA Top 25 Team Scholar All-America team rankings. Minot State earned the No. 7 spot with a cumulative team GPA of 3.415.
The Beavers were one of three NSIC teams to earn a spot in the Top 10 as Minnesota State, Mankato was ranked No. 4 with a 3.438 team GPA and Wisconsin-Parkside was No. 5 with a 3.436 team GPA.
Helping lead Minot State to the No. 7 spot in the nation in GPA were seven Beaver student-athletes who were named NWCA Division II Scholar All-Americans. In order for a student-athlete to be nominated to the Division II Scholar All-American Team, he must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA and must have competed in four dates of competition.
Leading the way among the seven Minot State grapplers named Scholar All-Americans were graduate student
Logen Fischer and seniors
Kelby Armstrong and
Cayden White, each of who were named Scholar All-Americans for the fourth time.
Fischer competed at 125 pounds and is working on his Masters in Sports Management, while Armstrong competed at 157 pounds and is a Biology major, and White competed at 184 pounds and is a Mathematics major.
Joining that trio as first-time Scholar All-Americans were
Wayne Joint, who competed at 133 pounds and is a junior Psychology major,
Brendan Barnes, who competed at 165 pounds and is a junior Business Education major,
Tristan Pekas, who competed at 174 pounds and is a freshman Finance major, and
Marcus Allen, who competed at 184 and is a redshirt-freshman Exercise Science and Rehabilitation major.
