MINOT, N.D. - The #6 Minot State Beavers women's hockey team defeated #3 Maryville University in an overtime thriller on Friday, January 10, with a final score of 3-2. With the win, the Beavers improve to 15-5-2, while Maryville drops to 13-5-4.
Minot State opened up the scoring at 5:19 into the first period on a goal scored by
Addison Dyck to go ahead 1-0. The goal scored by Dyck is her first goal of her college career. The Beavers's goalie,
Haylie Biever, held Maryville scoreless in the first period, tallying 8 saves on 8 shots on goal.
Maryville scored the lone goal of the second period at 8:58 into the period scored by Sydney Poisson to tie the game a 1-1.
The Beavers took a 2-1 lead at 6:05 into the third period on a power play goal scored by
Abby Tallman. After pulling their goalie and making it 6 on 5, Maryville tied the game at 2-2 with 24 seconds left in the period on a goal scored by Grace Karunakar.
It only took one shot in the overtime period for Minot State to capture the 3-2 victory. The game winning goal was scored by
Paige Kozak at 1:16 into the overtime period.
Paige Kozak, and
Journey Miller (2) were credited with assists in the game.
Haylie Biever led the way in net for the Beavers, tallying 24 saves on 26 shots on goal, improving her record to 6-4-2.
Following Friday's overtime victory over #3 Maryville, the Beavers will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, January 11, taking on Maryville in game two of a two-game series at 2:00 pm at the Maysa Arena (Eck Rink).
