MINOT, N.D. - The #6 ranked Minot State Beavers women's hockey defeats #3 Maryville University 3-1 to sweep the two-game series on Saturday, January 11. With the win, the Beavers improve their record to 16-5-2, while Maryville drops to 13-6-4 on the season.
Maryville opened up the scoring at 4:13 into the first period with a power play goal scored by Colleen O'Leary to go ahead 0-1.
Minot State tied the game up at 1-1 at 9:55 into the second period on a goal scored by
Cameron Schmidt. Beaver's goalie,
Jillian Ackerman, held Maryville scoreless in the second period, tallying 4 saves on 4 shots on goal.
The Beavers took a 2-1 lead at 12:31 into the third period on a goal scored by
Abby Pineau. Minot State put the game on ice when they extended their lead to 3-1 at 16:15 into the period on a goal scored by
Paige Kozak.
Jillian Ackerman held Maryville scoreless in the third period, tallying 4 saves on 4 shots on goal, to secure the 3-1 victory.
Makena Welby,
Olivia Opheim (2), and
Abby Tallman were credited with assists in the game.
Jillian Ackerman led the way in goal for the Beavers, tallying 21 saves on 21 shots on goal, improving her record to 4-0-0 on the season.
Following the two-game series sweep over #3 Maryville University, the Beavers will be back in action on the road in Fremont, Nebraska, to take on Midland University in a two-game series. Game one is scheduled for Friday, January 17, at 5:00 pm, and game two is scheduled for Saturday, January 18, at 4:00 pm.
