Beaver softball opens season settling for split with rival Dragons

MINOT, N.D. – Senior pitcher Reegan Floyd set the tone with a dominating performance in the circle, leading the Minot State softball team to a 3-0 win in their season opener in the Bubble Invite.
 
The Beavers (1-1 overall) had to settle for a split on the day, though, as visiting Minnesota State Moorhead came up with a dramatic, 5-4 win in 8 innings as the teams settled for a split in their doubleheader at the MSU Bubble.
 
Minot State is back in action for day two of the tournament against Black Hills State in another twinbill scheduled for 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Play begins at 10 a,m. in the Bubble Invite on Saturday morning with Providence taking on Mary.
 
GAME 1 | Minot State 3, Minnesota State-Moorhead 0
MINOT, N.D. -- Senior Reegan Floyd was dealing on Friday, hurling a three-hit shutout to lead the Minot State Beavers over the Minnesota State Moorhead Dragons 3-0.
 
Floyd (1-0) went the distance for Minot State, giving up three hits, walking none and striking out eight.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers took the lead for good in the fourth, scoring for the first time in the inning. Minot State scored twice on a two-run double off the bat of junior Paige Kellogg.
 
The Beavers also added a run in the sixth inning on a Kellogg RBIs ingle to complete their scoring in the ballgame.

MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot State Beavers fell 5-4 in an eight-inning matchup to the Minnesota State Moorhead Dragons Friday.
 
Senior Jasmine Blizzard (0-1) came out of the bullpen for Minot State and took the loss.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the first inning. Minot State got on the board thanks to senior Hannah Murray's RBI double with two outs.
 
The Dragons broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the seventh inning, when the Beavers got back on the scoreboard. Minot State picked up two runs in the frame, the big hit being an RBI double from junior Anna LaCount, which brought the score level at 3-3.
 
Minnesota State Moorhead busted up the tie and took a 5-3 lead in the eighth on a two-run home by Lexie Wilson, when Minot State narrowed the gap to 5-4. The Beavers pushed across a run on junior Paige Kellogg's RBI double. The Beavers were unable to get any closer.
