MINOT, N.D. - The Minot State Beavers men's hockey team defeated the University of Mary for the fourth time this season on Wednesday, January 8, with a final score of 6-2. With the win, the #2 ranked Beavers improve to 21-2-3 on the season, while the #14 ranked University of Mary drop to 16-7-0 on the season.
The Beavers opened up the scoring in the first period with a goal scored by
Brett Tataryn at 10:16 into the period to put Minot State ahead 1-0. The Beavers quickly took a 2-0 lead on a goal scored by
Reid Arnold at 12:08 into the period. The Marauders got one back at 15:10 into the period on a goal scored by Crae Dawson to make the score 2-1. The Beavers took another two-goal lead at 17:47 into the period on a power play goal scored by
Colby Joseph to make the score 3-1. The Marauders brought themselves within one at 19:22 into the period on a goal scored by Joe Gronholz to make the score 3-2.
The Beavers took a 4-2 lead at 10:14 into the second period on a power play goal scored by
Sheldin Howard. Right before the second period could end, the Beavers increased their lead to 5-2 on a power play goal scored by
Reid Arnold, his second goal of the game, at 19:56 into the period. Minot State's goalie,
Jake Anthony, held the Marauders scoreless in the second period, tallying 6 saves on 6 shots on goal.
Minot State scored the lone goal in the third period to secure the 6-2 victory. The third period goal for the Beavers was scored by
Walker Jerome at 7:53 into the period.

Following the 6-2 victory over the University of Mary, the Beavers will be back in action at home in a two-game series against Iowa State University. Game one is scheduled for Friday, January 10, at 7:30 pm at the Maysa Arena, and the Beavers will be hosting Cancer Awareness Night. Game two is scheduled for Saturday, January 11, at 7:30 pm at the Maysa Arena, and the Beavers will be hosting Military Appreciation Night.
