MINOT, ND -- The #2 Minot State Beavers men's hockey team continued its winning ways with a strong rivalry victory, defeating #12 University of Mary by a final score of 5-1 on Friday, October 31, at the Maysa Arena. With the win, the Beavers improve to 7-0-1, while UMary falls to 9-4-0.

Minot State opened the scoring in the first period as
Sheldin Howard put the Beavers on top at 6:18 into the period with assists from
Logan Cyca and
Christian Kadolph. UMary answered with a power play goal from Isaac Flatley at 11:52 into the period which sent the game into the first intermission tied 1-1.

The Beavers regained the lead early in the second period.
Logan Cyca capitalized at 3:41 into the period with assists from
Ben Johnson and
Jeremy Dewar to put Minot State ahead 2-1 heading into the third.

The Beavers took full control in the final frame, scoring three unanswered goals.
Jay Buchholz extended the lead to 3-1 at 5:08 into the period with assists credited to Cyca and Kadolph.
Colby Joseph made it 4-1 at 8:14 into the period with Buchholz providing the assist. The final goal of the night came at 18:12 into the period on the power play as
Matthew Yakubowski found the back of the net with assists from Joseph and Howard.

Minot State held a 34-32 advantage in shots on goal. Goaltender
William Dyke led the way in goal for the Beavers as he turned aside 31 of 32 shots to improve his record to 6-0-1 on the year.

The Beavers finished 1-for-4 on the power play while holding UMary to 1-for-5.

These in-state rivals will see each other again soon. Minot State will travel to Bismarck for a rematch against UMary on Saturday, November 8, at 7:00 pm.
