MINOT, ND -- In a matchup featuring two of the premier programs in the ACHA, the #4 Minot State Beavers women's hockey team skated to an official 2-2 overtime tie with #1 Midland University on Friday, October 31, at the Maysa Arena. A shootout followed the overtime period, and Midland came out on top. With the tie, Minot State moves to 4-2-5 on the season while Midland sits at 16-1-1.
Minot State opened the scoring in the first period when
Krissy Rink buried her third goal of the season at 9:55 into the period. Midland answered late in the frame with a power play goal from Kiara McGregor at 19:06 into the period to send the game to the first intermission tied 1-1.
After a scoreless second period, the Beavers regained the lead early in the third when
Olivia Opheim struck on the power play at 0:37 into the period with assists from
Abby Pineau and
Abby Tallman. Midland responded quickly with another power play goal from Taylor Bell at 1:46 into the period to even the score once again.
Despite chances for both sides throughout the remainder of regulation and overtime, neither team was able to break the deadlock.
Midland held the edge in shots on goal 40-23.
Jillian Ackerman delivered yet another standout performance in goal for the Beavers with 38 saves on 40 shots.
Minot State went 1-for-2 on the power play, while Midland finished 2-for-4.
The Beavers and Warriors will meet again for game two of the series on Saturday, November 1, at 3:45 pm at the Maysa Arena.
