MINOT, ND -- The #3 Minot State Beavers men's hockey team earned a strong 3-1 victory over #9 University of Jamestown on Friday night at the Maysa Arena. With the win, the Beavers improve to 8-1-1 on the season, while the Jimmies fall to 9-5-0.
Jamestown opened the scoring late in the first period when Tanner McCracken scored at 17:37 into the period to give the Jimmies a 1-0 lead after one.
Minot State responded in the second period on the power play.
Sheldin Howard buried the equalizer at 7:14 into the period with assists from
Joey Moffatt and
Matthew Yakubowski, tying the game at 1-1 heading into the final frame.
The Beavers took control in the third period.
Matthew Yakubowski scored the go-ahead goal at 8:18 into the period with assists from Howard and
Walker Jerome to make it 2-1. Minot State added insurance at 18:22 into the period when
Jay Buchholz scored to put the Beavers ahead 3-1.

Blake Sittler turned in an excellent performance with 26 saves on 27 shots to earn the win for the Beavers and improve his record to 2-0-0.
The Beavers finished 1-for-5 on the power play, while Jamestown went 0-for-3 on the man advantage.
These two teams will meet again for game two of the weekend series on Saturday, November 15, at 7:30 pm at the Maysa Arena.
