JAMESTOWN, ND -- The #4 Minot State Beavers women's hockey team earned a strong road win on Friday night, shutting out the University of Jamestown 3-0. With the victory, the Beavers improve to 5-2-6, while Jamestown falls to 1-8-1.
The first period featured solid defensive play and steady goaltending on both sides, resulting in no scoring through the opening 20 minutes.
Minot State broke through early in the second period on the power play when
Karlyn Gudz found the back of the net at 4:31 into the period.
Abby Pineau and
Olivia Opheim picked up assists on the play to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead heading into the third.
Gudz struck again just 1:35 into the third period, extending the lead to 2-0 with assists from
Maddie Beek and
Makenna Beard. Minot State sealed the victory late in the frame when
Abby Pineau scored at 16:19 into the period, assisted by
Erica Fijala, to make it 3-0.
Minot State held a 23-17 edge in shots on goal.
Jillian Ackerman continued her outstanding season with a 17-save shutout to improve her record to 4-2-1.
The Beavers finished 1-for-3 on the power play and held Jamestown scoreless on two power play opportunities.
Minot State and Jamestown will face off again in game two of the weekend series on Saturday, November 15, at 3:00 pm in Jamestown, North Dakota.
