MINOT, ND -- The #4 Minot State Beavers women's hockey team battled against top ranked Liberty University on Friday afternoon but fell 3-0 at the Maysa Arena. With the loss, the Beavers move to 6-3-6, while Liberty improves to 15-0-0.
The first period featured tight defensive play from both teams with neither side able to break through. Minot State generated a few early chances, but the period ended scoreless.
Liberty opened the scoring late in the second period when Hayley Lee converted at 15:30 into the period to give the Flames a 1-0 lead after two periods.
The Flames extended their lead in the third period on a power play goal from Allison Shaw at 7:35 into the period. Liberty added another goal at 18:44 into the period when Presley Ellis scored to make it 3-0.
Liberty held a 35-18 advantage in shots on goal.
Jillian Ackerman delivered a strong performance for Minot State with 32 saves on 35 shots. Liberty goaltender Alexandra Keith stopped all 18 shots she faced to record the shutout.
The Beavers finished 0-for-2 on the power play, while Liberty went 1-for-3 on the power play.
Minot State and Liberty will meet again for game two of the weekend series on Saturday, November 22, at 3:45 pm at the Maysa Arena.
