ROMEOVILLE, IL -- The #3 Minot State Beavers capped off a dominant weekend at the ACHA Showcase with an impressive 8-2 victory over Arizona State University on Sunday morning at Canlan Sports in Romeoville, Illinois. With the win, the Beavers close the weekend with a perfect 3-0-0 Showcase record and improve to 12-1-1 on the season.
Minot State opened the scoring in the first period when
Matt Egan netted his first goal of the season at 4:15 into the period, assisted by
Ben Johnson and
Jaxon Grosdidier. Arizona State answered at 10:24 into the period on a Carter Newlin goal to send the game into the first intermission tied 1-1.
The Beavers took full control in the second period with a five-goal explosion. Egan scored his second of the game at 2:48 into the period, again set up by Johnson along with
Matthew Yakubowski, to make it 2-1.
Logan Rands added a power play goal at 6:10 into the period with assists from
Colby Joseph and Yakubowski. Joseph followed with a goal of his own at 7:32 into the period, assisted by Rands and
Reece Henry, extending the lead to 4-1.
Minot State continued the surge as
Ben Johnson scored at 12:48 into the period, assisted by
Slade Stanick and
Eric Krywy.
Joey Moffatt capped the dominant period with a goal at 15:31 into the period off assists from
Logan Cyca and
Jay Buchholz to make it 6-1 through two periods.
Arizona State added a goal from Arthur Devillers at 3:08 into the third period, but Minot State answered with two more. Buchholz scored at 13:38 into the period with an assist from Cyca.
Jaxon Grosdidier added another at 16:29 into the period with assists from Egan and Krywy to close out the scoring at 8-2.
Minot State outshot Arizona State 45-22 in a commanding performance.
Blake Sittler improved his record in goal for the Beavers to 3-0-0 with 20 saves on 22 shots.
The Beavers finished the game 1-for-1 on the power play while holding Arizona State to 0-for-1 on the man advantage.
Minot State will next travel to Lynchburg, Virginia, for a two-game road series against Liberty University. Game one is scheduled for Friday, December 5, at 11:59 pm (ET) and game two is set for Saturday, December 6, at 7:00 pm (ET).
