BISMARCK, ND -- The #3 Minot State Beavers men's hockey team came up short on the road Saturday, November 8, falling 2-1 to the University of Mary. With the loss, the Beavers move to 7-1-1 on the season, while UMary improves to 10-5-0.
Minot State opened the scoring early in the first period when
Jay Buchholz scored on the power play at 3:46 into the period with assists from
Joey Moffatt and
Austin Clyne, giving the Beavers a 1-0 lead after one.
The Marauders tied the game late in the second period with a power play goal from David Loahr at 16:53 into the period to make it 1-1 heading into the final frame.
UMary took the lead just 1:30 into the third period on a goal from Amraj Gill, and the Beavers were unable to find an equalizer despite outshooting the Marauders 39-27 on the night.
William Dyke stopped 25 of 27 shots in goal for Minot State, while UMary's Caleb Cross turned aside 38 of 39 shots in a strong performance for the Marauders.
The Beavers went 1-for-5 on the power play, while UMary finished 1-for-3 on the man advantage.
Minot State will return home next weekend for a two-game series against the University of Jamestown at the Maysa Arena. Game one is scheduled for Friday, November 14, at 7:30 pm, and game two is set for Saturday, November 15, at 7:30 pm.
