Beavers battle back but fall in shootout against Jamestown

JAMESTOWN, ND -- The #2 Minot State Beavers men's hockey team battled back multiple times on Wednesday night but ultimately fell 4-3 in a shootout to the University of Jamestown at Wilson Arena. With the shootout loss, the Beavers move to 14-1-2, while the Jimmies improve to 12-8-0.

Jamestown opened the scoring early, taking a 1-0 lead just 1:41 into the first period on a goal from Griffin Bourassa. Jamestown extended the advantage to 2-0 at 6:06 into the period on a goal from Brad Fortin. Minot State responded at 14:42 into the period when Eric Krywy buried his first goal of the season off assists from Matt Egan and Ben Johnson, pulling the Beavers within one after 20 minutes.

The Jimmies regained a two-goal cushion early in the second period on Brad Fortin's second goal of the game, but the Beavers answered back on the power play. At 8:07 into the period, Joey Moffatt scored on a setup from Logan Rands and Jay Buchholz to cut the deficit to 3-2. Minot State continued to generate pressure throughout the period, outshooting Jamestown 16-9 in the frame.

In the third period, Minot State tied the game on another power play strike. At 9:51 into the period, Buchholz converted on the man advantage with assists going to Matthew Yakubowski and Moffatt, evening the score at 3-3. Despite a strong push and multiple chances late, neither team could find the go-ahead marker, sending the game to overtime.

The Beavers controlled play in the extra frame, outshooting Jamestown 4-0, but again were unable to break through. In the shootout, Minot State was held off the board on both attempts, while Jamestown scored twice to secure the shootout victory.

Minot State outshot the Jimmies 49-36 and went 2-for-3 on the power play, while holding Jamestown to 0-for-3 on the power play. Goaltender William Dyke made 32 saves on 35 shots in the game.

The Beavers return home on Saturday, December 13, for an exhibition matchup against Lake Region State College at the ND State Fairgrounds (All Seasons Arena). Puck drop is set for 6:30 pm.
