Beavers fall in series finale against #2 Midland

FREMONT, NE -- The #6 Minot State Beavers women's hockey team wrapped up their weekend series on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-1 to #2 Midland University in game two. With the loss, the Beavers move to 7-5-6, while Midland improves to 21-2-2 on the season.

Midland established control in the opening period, taking a 1-0 lead at 15:35 into the period on a goal from Heidi Danners. The Warriors added another late in the frame when Victoria Campbell scored shorthanded at 18:23 into the period to extend the advantage to 2-0 heading into the first intermission.

The Warriors struck again early in the second period on the power play on a goal from Ashlyn Kuffler making it 3-0 at 4:26 into the frame. Despite facing sustained pressure and multiple penalty kills, Minot State kept the deficit from growing further. Goaltender Jillian Ackerman turned away several high-quality chances as the Beavers settled in defensively.

Minot State found its lone goal of the day early in the third period on the power play. At 3:32 into the period, Cameron Schmidt buried one to cut the deficit to 3-1 and give the Beavers some momentum. However, Midland held strong the rest of the way, slowing Minot State's push while limiting opportunities in the final minutes.

Ackerman finished with 21 saves on 24 shots, continuing her consistent play in net. The Beavers went 1-for-5 on the power play and held Midland to 1-for-5 on the power play.

Minot State will now shift its focus to the new year, returning home to the ND State Fairgrounds (All Seasons Arena) in Minot for a two-game series against the University of Jamestown on Friday, January 9, and Saturday, January 10, with puck drop both days scheduled for 3:45 pm.
