Minot State Women's Wrestling turned in a strong day of competition at the Bob Smith Open hosted by Fort Hays State, earning three podium finishes and several standout victories across the lineup.
At 110 pounds,
Alexa Garcia opened her tournament with gritty efforts in both of her matches, battling through tough exchanges early in the day and continuing to build experience.
The Beavers saw major success at 124 pounds, where
Alyssa Jones delivered one of Minot State's best performances of the tournament, finishing 3rd overall. Jones recorded two dominant tech falls to start the day (12-1 and 10-0) before adding two more strong decision wins, including a 7-2 and 4-2 victory to secure her place on the podium. At the same weight,
Hi'ilani Malano-Dando and
Skye Shelmerdine each showcased competitive moments, with Shelmerdine highlighting the bracket by earning a lighting-fast 34-second pin in her opening match.
At 131 pounds,
Keela Kary continued to battle through a tough bracket, gaining valuable mat time against strong opponents. Moving 138 pounds,
Puakela Beebe added a solid win for the Beavers, earning a 6-2 decision after a competitive first round to advance in her bracket.
Minot State earned additional victories at 145 pounds, where
Chloe Parsons responded to an early setback with strong second-round performance, picking up a 1:39 fall to advance.
The Beavers' biggest bracket run came at 160 pounds, where
Aliana Barnoski put together an impressive day to finish 6th place. Barnoski compiled five wins, including three tech falls and a pin, showcasing both offensive skill and consistency across a long tournament. At the same weight,
Madison Parsons added more competitive mat time for Minot State in her two matches.
Minot State also found success in the upper weights. At 180 pounds,
Madilyn Schuck earned a 4th-pkace finish, opening her day with a pin and later earning two solid decision victories including a 3-0 shutout to reach the placement rounds.
At 207 pounds,
Aniya Herbin delivered a strong and resilient tournament to secure 5th place. Herbin recorded three wins including two pins and capped her day with a 2-2 ride-out tiebreaker victory to finish in the top five. Fellow heavyweight
Dahlia Silva added another Minot win in the bracket, earning a hard-fought decision in her second match of the day.
Minot State will return to competition on December 13, when they travel to take on Dickinson State.
