DULUTH, Minn. – The host Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs pulled away late in both games Friday, scoring a pair of wins over Minot State in a unique NSIC doubleheader.
The Bulldogs plated six runs late in the opener, breaking open a one-run ballgame for a 9-2 win in a game that started in late morning.
Minot State (14-23 overall, 9-20 NSIC) found itself tied 4-4 in the nightcap before Minnesota Duluth again surged late to score a 10-7 win in the second half of the doubleheader with a 4 ½ hour delay between games to avoid rainy weather in Duluth.
The two teams meet again Saturday in another doubleheader with the first game counting toward the NSIC standings while the second game will be a non-conference contest.

DULUTH, Minn. -- The Minot State Beavers put together a spirited comeback, scoring three runs in the ninth inning, but the late-game rally came up short and they fell 10-7 to the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs on Friday.
Sophomore Conner Meldrim (2-2) came out of the bullpen for Minot State and took the loss. Sophomore Ayden Sauerbrei was a bright spot for the Beavers, coming out of the bullpen as well and throwing one shutout inning, allowing one hit, with no walks and one strikeout.
In the batter's box, the Beavers were led by junior Michael Williamson, who went 3-for-5 on the day with a home run and three RBI. Junior Jake Orthner furnished a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 3-for-5 with a double. Junior Noah Madas also contributed for Minot State, putting together four hits in four trips to the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Senior Brent Riddle came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State and get them on the board.
The Beavers deficit grew to 3-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, tying the score in the fifth inning. Minot State brought home a pair, with one run driven in by junior Shane Kary's single, which evened the score at 3-3.
Minnesota Duluth broke that tie and grabbed a 4-3 lead moving into the sixth, when Minot State tied the game at four. The Beavers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of senior Seungjun Song.
The Bulldogs broke the tie and took the lead heading into the ninth inning, when Minot State got back on the board. The inning resulted in three runs for the Beavers, all of them scoring on a three-run homer from Williamson to tightening the Minnesota Duluth lead to 10-7. The ballgame ended with that ninth inning rally falling short.
