LaCount homers twice in Minot State's 11-3 win against Minnesota State-Moorhead

MINOT, ND -- The Beavers took two against the Dragons in today's doubleheader, bumping them up to a record of 11-5 in conference. The Beavers impressed on the diamond today by producing solid offense and limiting errors on defense. The Beavers will next face the Winona State University Warriors (13-3) on Saturday. 

GAME 1 | Minot State 11, Minnesota State-Moorhead 3

MINOT, ND --Junior Anna LaCount put together a stellar outing at the plate Wednesday, hitting two home runs to help power the Minot State Beavers over the Minnesota State-Moorhead Dragons 11-3.

Senior Reegan Floyd (12-5) started in the circle and picked up the win for Minot State (22-16, 10-5). The right-hander went six innings, giving up three runs, zero earned, on 10 hits, allowing one walk and striking out three.

LaCount went 2-for-2 at the plate, supplementing her two home runs with three RBIs. Freshman Isabelle Anderson added to LaCount's awesome power-hitting performance by going 1-for-2 with a triple and two RBI along with two walks. Junior Sara Van also chipped in for the Beavers, going 1-for-3 with a triple and a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beavers put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning.

The Dragons then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 3-2 until the Beavers expanded their advantage in the third. The Minot State offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a one-run single off the bat of junior Raivyn Millions, which brought the score to 7-2 in favor of the Beavers.

Minot State kept Minnesota State-Moorhead without a run before building their lead to 9-2 the following inning. The Beavers added two to their tally on LaCount's two-run homer to left.

The Dragons gained ground, closing the gap to 9-3 until Minot State added some insurance in the sixth. The Beavers drove in a couple on a two-run triple from Anderson, bringing the Minot State advantage to 11-3. The score remained 11-3 for the rest of the game, as the Beavers coasted to the win.

MINOT, ND --The Minot State Beavers secured a win in walk-off fashion, responding to score one in the bottom of the seventh after Minnesota State-Moorhead tied it up in the top half, sealing the victory with freshman Sarah Misner at the plate to take down the Dragons 5-4 Wednesday.

Senior Jasmine Blizzard (9-7) started in the circle and picked up the win for Minot State (23-16, 11-5). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on nine hits, allowing two walks and striking out three.

Offensively, the Beavers were paced by junior Taylor Smith, who went 3-for-4 on the day with two triples. Senior Abbey Kelley compiled a standout effort as well, going 2-for-2 with two RBI. Junior Sara Van also chipped in for Minot State, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beavers were trailing 1-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Minot State got an RBI single from Kelley, scoring Smith from second base.

The game remained tied until the fourth inning, when the Beavers got going again on offense. Minot State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Kelley, which brought the score to 2-1 in favor of the Beavers.

Minot State's lead had disappeared once the sixth inning came around and turned into a 3-2 Minnesota State-Moorhead advantage, when the Beavers re-gained control at 4-3.

Minnesota State-Moorhead then rallied to tie the ballgame at 4-4 before Minot State walked it off in the bottom of the seventh when Smith came across to score.
