MINOT, N.D. – Win No. 200 is in the bank.
The 5
th-ranked Minot State women's hockey team controlled play throughout and thwarted a late charge by 13
th-ranked Indiana Tech on Friday night at the All Seasons Arena, netting a 2-1 victory that gave 9
th-year Beaver head coach
Ryan Miner his 200
th career win leading Minot State.
With the milestone moment now in the bank, the Beavers (10-6-5 overall, 7-6-1 WMCH) go back to work looking for more victories as they host Indiana Tech (8-13-1, 6-4-0 CCWHA) once again Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. to wrap up the teams' weekend series.
Focused on their foe, and not the milestone moment, Minot State dominated the opening period, outshooting the Warriors 16-4 and finding the back of the net when
Abby Pineau scored unassisted with 5 minutes, 44 seconds left before intermission.
Indiana Tech controlled the second period, but could not get on the board, then Minot State stretched the lead to 2-0, 7:48 into the third when
Abby Tallman scored off assists by
Journey Miller and
Tori Bear.
Inching closer and closer to icing win No. 200, the Indiana Tech snapped the shutout with a short-handed goal with 2:28 left, making the closing moments a bit more dramatic before Minot State finished off that milestone win.
Jillian Ackerman finished with 24 saves in goal in the victory for Minot State.
