Top-ranked Minot State set to battle No. 6 Maryville on the road

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Fresh off a weekend sweep at home, the top-ranked Minot State men's hockey team hits the road ready to net more wins.

The Beavers (17-1-1-1 overall, 9-1-1-1 MCH) play Friday and Saturday at No. 6 Maryville, the second meeting between the teams this season as Minot State swept the Saints (11-6-1) at the Maysa Arena back in October. Puck drop is 7 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

The Saints come into the weekend playing well, having won 3-of-4 since the start of the new year, which includes a split with No. 4 Drury last weekend as the Panthers won 2-1 in overtime, then Maryville won 5-4.

Senior Sam Edwards leads the way for the Saints with 7 goals and 7 assists, while sophomore Maxwell Wagener has added 6 goals and 11 assists, and Brett Ursulak has 6 goals and 5 assists.

One of Edwards' goals this season came in the series in Minot when the Beavers won 3-1 and 5-2.

Senior Lucas Bain and junior Parker Sawka have shared time in goal, each playing 9 games with Bain picking up 6 wins and a shutout, and Sawka 5 wins and a shutout. Both played in Minot with Sawka making 22 saves in the 5-2 loss and Bain stopping 25 shots in the 3-1 setback.

The Beavers head into the weekend having beaten Mary 4-0, and Midland 5-2 and 4-1 to start the new calendar year.

William Dyke earned the shutout win against the 10th-ranked Marauders, making 27 saves for his second shutout this season to go along with 12 wins.

Blake Sittler picked up both victories over the 17th-ranked Warriors, stopping 29 total shots to improve to a perfect 5-0 in goal in his freshman season.

Colby Joseph has led the way offensively for the Beavers with 13 goals and 11 assists, while Joey Moffatt has added 10 goals and 10 assists for the prolific Minot State attack, which has outscored opponents 76-33 this season.
