Minot State baseball falls in 10 innings to open season

TUCSON, Ariz. - Adams State (Colo.) spoiled the season opener for the Minot State baseball team Friday afternoon with a walk-off, 5-4 win in 10 innings in Tucson, Arizona.

The extra-inning loss spoiled a strong comeback performance by the Beavers, who rallied for four runs in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead.

Nate Hutchison had a two-run single in the Beavers' rally, and Vinnie Gates added a 2-run single that put Minot State on top 4-3.

Adams State tied it in the bottom of the fifth, and after four scoreless innings, won it in the 10th.

Gates and Cowen Meyer each had a pair of hits to lead the Beavers (0-1 overall), while Minot State relievers Wyatt Anicker, Thomas Mitchell, and Jack Seibert combined for 4 scoreless innings on the hill.

Minot State and Adams State play again Saturday in Arizona, then the Beavers take on Emporia State (Kan.), also on Saturday in Arizona.
