MINOT, N.D. – Minot State goalie
William Dyke was the star of the night, making 27 saves for his second shutout of the season, leading the Beavers past their in-state rival the University of Mary.
Dyke's shutout effort gave Minot State time to find its offensive rhythm following the month-long holiday break, as the Beavers (15-1-1-1 overall, 7-1-1-1) netted three goals in the third period to break open a close contest and score the 4-0 win at the All Seasons Arena on Friday night.
Minot State next returns to the ice next Friday and Saturday, January 16 and 17, hosting Midland at the Maysa Arena at 7:30 p.m. each evening.
Dyke stopped 10 shots by the Marauders (18-8-0, 4-3-0) in a scoreless first period, then turned aside 11 more chances in the second while the Beavers'
Matthew Yakubowski netted what proved to be the game-winner 2 minutes, 9 seconds into the session.
Sheldin Howard and
Colby Joseph assisted on Yakubowski's goal.
While Dyke didn't let up in the third, making 6 more saves to finish off the shutout, his teammates made things easier as Minot State got goals from
Jay Buchholz,
Joey Moffatt, and
Logan Rands to break the game open.
Austin Clyne,
Logan Cyca,
Christian Kadolph,
Eric Krywy, Moffatt, and Joseph added an assist each in the third-period surge.
