KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Oscar Pegg got to be the hero as his walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the eighth gave Minot State a 9-8, extra-inning win Tuesday over Southwest Minnesota State and sparked a doubleheader sweep for the Beavers in a neutral-site NSIC doubleheader.
Pegg added a home run in the nightcap, as well, for the Beavers (3-4 overall, 2-1 NSIC), who also got home runs from Vinnie Gates and Jessen West in a 9-6 win.
Minot State finished with 7 home runs on the day as Jake Orthner, Noah Madas, and Nate Hutchison also hit homers in the opener for the Beavers.
Minot State is back in action for another NSIC neutral-site series, playing doubleheaders Friday and Saturday in Parkville, Missouri, against Winona State, with the first three games counting in the NSIC standings.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- The Minot State Beavers needed eight innings to finish the job, but secured the 9-8 extra-innings win, walking it off on senior Oscar Pegg's solo home run off of sophomore Austin Dent to claim victory over the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs Tuesday.
Junior Ayden Sauerbrei (1-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Minot State. The right-hander went three innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on four hits, allowing one walk and striking out one.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers were trailing 4-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Minot State plated two runs when senior Noah Madas left the yard with senior Jessen West aboard.
The Mustangs expanded their lead to 5-2 before the Beavers offense got back to work, taking the lead in the fourth. The Minot State offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run home run off the bat of senior Jake Orthner, which brought the score to 6-5 in favor of the Beavers.

Sophomore Wyatt Toth (1-0) started on the mound and picked up the win for Minot State. The right-hander went six innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on seven hits, allowing two walks and striking out four.
Gates' two extra-base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-4 day, and included a double, a home run and an RBI. Hutchison made his contribution with two doubles and two RBIs, part of a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. Senior Jessen West also chipped in for the Beavers, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a home run, a walk and two RBIs.
