JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The 3
rd-ranked Minot State women's hockey team turned in a repeat performance Saturday, topping No. 10 Jamestown by a 5-1 score for the second straight night.
Now, the Beavers await their opponents in pool play at the ACHA National Tournament in Maryland Heights, Missouri, which starts March 18.
The final tune-up before nationals for Minot State (18-7-7 overall), the Beavers grabbed an early lead on the first collegiate goal for
Makayla Peters just 5 minutes, 34 seconds into the action.
Krissy Rink and
Addison Dyck assisted on the goal.
Four minutes, 2 seconds later, the Jimmies evened the score, 1-1, before Minot State took control.
Kinley Brassard started the charge for the Beavers as she scored the game-winner 2:39 after Jamestown tied it, off an
Avary Lazarenko assist, then
Maggie Nicol scored her first collegiate goal, off assists from
Carlin Zant and
Olivia Opheim, with 3:58 left until the first intermission, giving Minot State a more comfortable 3-1 edge.
Rink pushed the lead to 4-1 with 6:51 gone in period No. 2, off an
Erica Fijala assist, then Kaitlyn Synder capped the scoring with 12:10 left in the third, finishing off assists from
Karlyn Gudz and
Abby Pineau.
Bailey Grunewald earned the win in goal as she made 32 saves on the night for the Beavers.
