MINOT, N.D. – The top-ranked Minot State men's hockey team continued to roll, this time skating past in-state rival and 11
th-ranked Mary on Tuesday night at the Maysa Arena.
Colby Joseph scored twice and Beaver goalie
William Dyke stopped 20 of 22 shots as Minot State beat the Marauders 4-2 to start a home-and-home series between the North Dakota rivals.
The two teams meet again Wednesday night, this time in Bismarck, with Mary hosting.
Tuesday at the Maysa Arena, Minot State (21-1-1-1 overall, 11-1-1-1 MCH) wasted little time taking control as Joseph netted his first of the night 8 minutes, 16 seconds into the action.
Dyke held the Marauders at bay and gave his teammates time to pad the lead, which
Logan Cyca did with 4:12 gone in the second, scoring off assists from
Joey Moffatt and Joseph.
Jay Buchholz then stretched the Beaver lead to 3-0 just 24 seconds into the third period with a power-play goal, assisted by Moffatt and
Logan Rands, before the Marauders ever got on the board.
Goals by Alex Senf and John Lang closed the gap, but an empty-netter by Joseph with 49 seconds left iced the win.
