The Minot State Men's Wrestling team faced a tough road challenge on Friday night, falling to Northern State in a 52-0 decision. Competing away from home, the Beavers went head-to-head with a strong Northern State lineup that capitalized on early momentum and depth across the weight classes. Despite the final score, Minot State continued to battle through every bout and gained experience against a quality conference opponent.
The dual opened at 125 pounds, where
Austin Garcia was tested by Sloan Johannsen, who earned a technical fall. Northern State continued to build its lead through the lighter weights, securing bonus points at 133, 141, and 149 pounds.
Cole Faircloth,
Ethan Wonser, and
Brayden Guerrero each faced aggressive pressure, with the Wolves converting opportunities into falls and technical falls to extend the team score.
In the middle weights, Minot State continued to compete against a physically strong lineup.
Roman Leifridt (157) and
Daniels Bendiks (165) battled through their matches before being pinned, while
Gavin Turk put together a resilient effort at 174 pounds, limiting bonus points in a major decision loss. Turk's performance showcased persistence and composure against a seasoned opponent.
The upper weights closed out the dual with hard-fought matches from
Payton Wayman (184),
Shafer Ehmke (197), and
Braxton Rance (285). Ehmke managed to push the pace in an 8-2 decision, while Rance stepped into a difficult heavyweight matchup to finish the night. An additional exhibition bout at heavyweight saw Zachary Allen compete in a decision loss.
